GATE 2026: Application Process, Eligibility, Exam Dates, Fees, and Syllabus

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026) notification is officially released. This time, IIT Guwahati will conduct the exam in February 2026. In this post, we cover who can apply, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, application fees, important dates, and the complete process to apply for GATE 2026.

  • Registration Opens: 28th August 2025
  • Last Date to Apply: 28th September 2025
  • Extended Last Date with Late Fee: 9th October 2025
  • Form Correction Window: Till 6th November 2025
  • Admit Card Release: 2nd January 2026
  • Exam Dates: 7th, 8th, 14th & 15th February 2026
  • Result Declaration: 19th March 2026
  • Score Card Download: 27th March 2026 onwards

GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • B.Sc. (Final Year or Completed)
  • M.Sc. (1st Year, 2nd Year or Completed)
  • Engineering & Science graduates from any recognized university
  • No Age Limit – candidates of any age can apply

Note: Final year students of B.Sc. (Science) are also eligible.


Application Fees


Exam Pattern

  • Total Marks: 100
  • Duration: 3 Hours (180 Minutes)
  • Total Questions: 65
  • Question Types:
    • MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions)
    • MSQ (Multiple Select Questions)
    • NAT (Numerical Answer Type)
  • Negative Marking:
    • MCQ (1 Mark): -0.33
    • MCQ (2 Marks): -0.66
    • MSQ & NAT: No Negative Marking

GATE 2026 Syllabus

The syllabus remains the same as previous years. Students can check detailed syllabus on the official website for each subject. For Chemistry candidates, the subject code is CY (not CH).


Documents Required

  • Recent Passport Size Photograph (as per guidelines)
  • Signature (in Blue/Black Ink)
  • Valid Photo ID (Aadhar, Passport, Driving License, etc.)
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)

  • Eligibility for PSU jobs (as per PSU requirements)
